Artist Walter BennettWalter Bennett is an Eagle-Bear from the Bear House in Angoon.

Walter is a Tlingit carver who first learned the craft in 1967. He also teaches carving to apprentices and to students in the Juneau School District.

His work is esteemed by Alaska Native collectors of Native art; Sealaska Corp. purchased an elaborate bentwood box made by Walter and put the work on permanent display in the corporation's headquarters in Juneau.

Walter works primarily with yellow and red cedar. His spectrum of work includes wood plaques, bentwood boxes, paddles, coffee tables, halibut hooks, desktop name plates, rattles and carved drum strikers.

He makes his home in Juneau.
