Rudolph M. Isturis, Gáax yéilCry Raven, Gáax yéil, Rudolph M. Isturis belongs to the Raven Moiety, of the Dog salmon Clan, and belongs to the Dipper House. A lifelong resident of Southeast Alaska, He was born to Marlee and Rudolph G. Isturis. Rudolph was artistically inspired when younger by his grandmother, Bessie Visaya, one of the original founders of the Alaska Native Sisterhood.

Rudolph started wood carving when in high school; while in college, he took a Tlingit carving/design class taught by Nathan Jackson and has been instructed in basic jewelry design. Currently he enjoys conferring with accomplished artists such as Mick and Rick Beasley, who help prompt him to enroll in applicable jewelry/art classes and continue to be a wonderful source of mentorship and friendship.

The artist's creations vary from Native-themed silver/gold fine jewelry to lapidary products that utilize gem rocks from Southeast Alaska. Marble, fossil, and varied colorful rocks from Prince of Wales Island tend to be what is most utilized within his creations. Often you may find inlays that incorporate ivory, shells, bone, and fine gems to generate a piece unique and unusual.

If you dare the artist to create a free form designed commission, with your own inspirational suggestions, he shall accept and enjoy the challenge of creating the gift which will be regarded not only as beautiful, but may serve as a family heirloom. The artist regards input from clients as one of the most significant elements to creating a product not only appealing to the eye, but also to the spirit and heart.

By chance if you sight Cry Raven, stop and chat with him of wonderful creations that may walk your mind and spirit or lay buried in your heart… awaiting the crafting hands of the artist.
