Pauline Johnson (chéil') with an Octopus BagPauline (Jim) Johnson is a Tlingit from Southeast Alaska. She is of the Raven moiety, T'akdeintaan (Sea Pigeon) Clan. Her clan house, Snail House, is in Hoonah. She was born in Hood Bay and raised in Angoon.

Pauline's dad, George Jim, Sr., is of the (shark) Woosh kee taan Clan and mother Adeline (Walters) Jim is of the (Sea Pigeon) T'akdeintaan Clan.

Pauline's dad was her inspiration. Her memories of her dad was the sound of his voice as he spoke his language and the vision of him as he danced with the Spirit Head Dress. He became that spirit, and as he turned in completion of his performance, you could tell he danced with all his heart. "Never to be forgotten."

Beaded vests by Pauline JohsonPauline's works of art include beading, making vests, moccasins, blankets, octopus bags, medicine bags, checkbook holders, dance dresses, beaded hairpieces, covers for palms, tunics and baby booties.

She has 22 years of experience. Pauline first started her art work with Ester Littlefield at Sheldon Jackson College in 1980.
