Teardrop Amulet 2
The Teardrop Amulet 2, a hand-knotted potlatch pouch, acknowledges intense emotions all humans experience with the return of their brother, the salmon.  The amulet is a miniature replica of the dip net Native people still use to collect each individual fish.  While the people rejoice in the return of the salmon, their gratitude for the bounty is always tempered by their tears as acknowledgment for the life sacrifice of the salmon. The necklace is a continuous strand, fashioned as ancient Aleut cordage using imported waxed Irish linen.  The natural color linen pouch, common among many of the coastal cultures is suspended from a single cord. It is embellished with exotic copper, stone and glass beads. The pouch is 1½" wide and 1" tall.   A fringe, suspended from the mother of pearl button collected at Ketchikan's Goodwill during 1970 supports one crystal clear tear drop - the emotional heart of the piece. 13.5 inches.
