"Eskimo Hunter's Ivory Wall Hanging" (large)
Walrus ivory wall hanging featuring the implements and prey of the hunt. Depicts faces of a man and woman with ivory faces and fur ruffs, snowshoes made of antler with metal and waxed sinew bindings, ivory and bone ulu (a scraper and cutting blade for working on hides and meat), Eskimo seal hook (used for retrieving sunken seal), ivory harpoon tip with line, carved ivory walrus head with baleen eyes and nostrils and black scrimshaw. At left is a bone blade with ivory handle used to cut meat. At right is a harpoon with ivory handle, bone barb tip and seal-skin line. Items attached to seal skin, which is attached by waxed sinew to six ivory rods (this is made to resemble a traditional hide frame used to stretch hides). Reverse scrimshawed baleen (whalebone) depicting a King Salmon, a Bowhead Whale, a Killer Whale, an Eskimo seal hunter, a Ring Seal and Kokogiak (a mythological 10-legged polar bear).
