"The Whale's Tail"
Coastal hat plaited with 1/4-inch Alaska red cedar bark collected on Prince of Wales Island in Southeast Alaska. This type of coastal rain hat is indigenous to tribes from Vancouver Island up the Inside Passage into Cook Inlet and west to portions of the Aleutian Islands. Features abalone disc, Ermine, faceted glass beads and carved bone Whale's Tail...(more on this piece). By Lois Chichinoff Thadei. $440.00 (#1158)
"Sun City West"
Pacific Northwest Coastal Hat beautifully plaited and twined using richly-hued Alaska red and yellow cedar bark.
The crisply folded brim is neat and secure - an old stitch.  The yellow cedar, triple twining at the bend of the crown is an old traditional feature repeated between design fields as a special touch.  Special stitches have been strategically placed to support the attachment of icons, banners or other special elements.  This would be a nicely proportioned hat for an adult of diminutive stature, or a youth...(more on this piece). By Lois Chichinoff Thadei. $250.00 (#1159)  Sold.
"The Minimalist"
Coastal hat plaited with 1/4-inch Alaska red cedar bark collected on Prince of Wales Island in Southeast Alaska. This type of coastal rain hat is indigenous to tribes from Vancouver Island up the Inside Passage into Cook Inlet and west to portions of the Aleutian Islands.
The diameter of the hat brim is minimal making The Minimalist easily worn when very active, or wearing layers of cloak, jacket, tunic, vest or robe...(more on this piece). By Lois Chichinoff Thadei. $250.00 (#1160)
"Daajang"
Yellow and red cedar Haida hat. Daajang won 2nd place for traditional art in the 2004 Sealaska Juried Art Show (Video: Windows Media or RealPlayer). The hat is unusual because part of its design was derived from a newly re-learned technique discovered on a 550-year-old hat unearthed in 1999 with the "Long Ago Person Found" on the edge of a receding glacier in Tatshenshini-Alsek Park...(more on this piece). By Della Cheney. $2,000 (#1189)
